Patron Saint of Breast cancer

The patron saint of breast cancer is Saint Agatha of Sicily or Saint Agatha
a Christian Saint. Her memorial is on February 5th.
Agatha was born at Catania and she was martyred in approximately AD 205.She is the Patron Saint of Catania. She is one of seven women, excluding the Blessed Virgin Mary, commemorated by name in the Canon of the Mass
According to variations of her legend, having rejected the amorous advances of a Roman Prefect, she was persecuted by him for her Christian faith.
Among the tortures she underwent was the cutting off of her breasts. She is therefore often depicted carrying her excised breasts on a platter.
The shape of her amputated breasts, especially as depicted in artistic renderings, more recently gave rise to her being venerated as patron saint of breast cancer patients.
Her scorned admirer eventually sentenced her to death by being burnt at the steke. However, she was saved from this fate by a mysterious earthquake. She later died in prison.

What sort of bastard would treat a woman this way anyway? I can see why she rejected the jerk!

Lybrel

During this past week, I read, via an email, that I thought was important enough to share with you …

“Nicole Dishuk (age 31…newly graduated student with a doctoral degree about to start her new career as a Doctor…) was flown into a nearby hospital, because she passed out.

They found a blood clot in her neck, and immediately took her by helicopter to the ER to operate. By the time they removed
the right half of her skull to relieve the pressure on her brain; the clot had spread to her brain causing severe damage.

Since last Wednesday night, she was battling… they induced her into a coma to stop the blood flow, they operated 3 times… Finally, they said there was nothing left that they could do…they found multiple clots in the left side of her brain… the swelling wouldn’t stop, and she was on life support…

She died at 4:30 yesterday. She leaves behind a husband, a 2 year old Brandon and a 4 year old Justin. The cause of death – they found was a birth control pill she was taking that allows you to only have your period 3 times a year. They said it interrupts life’s menstrual cycle, and although it is FDA approved – shouldn’t be – So to the women in my address book – I ask you to boycott this product and deal with your period once a month – so you can live the rest of the months that your life has in store for you.

Please send this to every woman you know – you may save someone’s life…

Remember, you have a CYCLE for a reason!

The name of this new birth control pill is LYBREL. If you go to Lybrel.com http://lybrel.com/, you will find at least 26 pages of
information regarding this drug.

The second birth control pill is SEASONIQUE. If you go to the website of, Seasonique.com http://seasonique.com/, you will
find 43 pages of information regarding this drug.

The warnings and side effects regarding both pills are horrible.

Please, please forward this information to as many daughters AND sons, co-workers, friends and relatives. Several lives have already been changed.”

It’s just a joke…but

There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer’s research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them.

Carcinogens Galore

The motto of Breast Cancer Awareness Month is “Early Detection is Your Best Protection”. Mammograms are the front line of defense.? Celebrities like Rosie O’Donnell offer free t-shirts with the honourable words “I’ve been Squished” if you’ll make a date with your local x-ray department. So let’s all join in and wave our pink ribbons and don those running shoes and take to the streets, right?
Wait! Before the emotional frenzy of this call to arms sweeps you up, there is something you should perhaps know. Breast Cancer Awareness month’s primary sponsor and mastermind of the event in 1985 was Zeneca Pharmaceuticals, now known as AstraZeneca. Zeneca is the company that manufactures the controversial and widely prescribed breast cancer drug, Tamoxifen. Did you know all TV, radio and print media campaigns in America are paid for and must be approved by Zeneca?
Perhaps we can forgive Zeneca’s heavy involvement with carcinogenic chemicals, since it researched and patented the most popular breast cancer treatment, Tamoxifen, which grosses 500 million dollars a year. Perhaps not. On May 16, 2000 the New York Times reported that the National Institute for Environmental Health Sciences listed substances that are known to cause cancer.
Tamoxifen was included in that list!!
It is known that Tamoxifen causes uterine cancer, liver cancer and gastro-intestinal cancer. After just two to three years of use, Tamoxifen will increase the incidence of uterine cancer by two to three times. The treatment for uterine cancer is a hysterectomy.
In addition, Tamoxifen increased the risk of strokes, blood clots, eye damage, menopausal symptoms, and depression. The biggest shock of all is the fact that Tamoxifenwill increase the risk of breast cancer! The journal Science published a study from Duke University Medical Center in 1999 showing that after 2 – 5 years, Tamoxifen actually initiated the growth of breast cancer! So, Zeneca, the originator of Breast Cancer Awareness month is the manufacturer of carcinogenic petrochemicals, carcinogenic pollutants and a breast cancer drug that causes at least four different types of cancer in women, including breast cancer. I ask you to stop and think, “Is something wrong with this picture?”

Recognising a stroke

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke…totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Remember the “3″ steps, STR . Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

S * Ask the individual to SMILE .
T * Ask the person to TALK to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (eg “It is sunny out today”).
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS .

NOTE : Another ’sign’ of a stroke is this: Ask the person to ’stick’ out their tongue. If the tongue is ‘crooked’, if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke. If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 000 immediately!! and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

Wouldn’t it be great if this information gets to save just one life!

Double Mastectomies

I sometimes wonder about the choices that some women make to have double mastectomies (have their breasts cut off) because they may be at risk of getting breast cancer. Ie it may be in the family, they may carry the identified gene.
All I would ask is if there was a history of brain cancer in the family would they cut off their heads?
If there was a family history of heart disease would the cut out their hearts? It just sounds stupid doesn’t it?

Wrong Breast Cancer Diagnosis!

A woman from Florida had both of her breasts removed after a lab headquartered out of Florida apparently switched her tissue specimens with a patient suffering from cancer. The 35-year-old single mother said she was recently diagnosed with a highly aggressive form of breast cancer. She said she did all the right things after the cancer diagnosis. “I had a second opinion and saw specialists. Then, I had a radical mastectomy.”

Two weeks after the operation, her doctor called and told her about the mistake, Local 6 reported. Her tissue sample was apparently mislabeled by a lab technician at the CBL Path medical lab in Rye Brook. CBL Path is headquartered in Ocala, but the tests were done in New York. The the report said the real cancer patient in the apparent mix-up went undiagnosed for months,
She filed a lawsuit against CBL Path Inc. The company is defending its labs and said the New York Health Department found no other major problems. The technician involved in the incident is no longer with the company, according to CBS News.
